Dr Jay Bhattacharya M.D., Ph.D., is a professor at Stanford University Medical School, a physician, epidemiologist, health economist, and public health policy expert and for the past 20 years has been focusing on infectious disease epidemiology in vulnerable populations.
In April 2020 he wrote about how widespread the disease already was in California, indicating it was already too late for any lockdown strategy to eliminate the disease or get it to zero. Lockdowns ignored the basic fact that there is a thousand-fold difference in the risk of a severe outcome from infection of SARS-CoV-2 between the youngest of the population and the elderly, couple with this, the harms of the lockdowns were catastrophically devastating to the poor and working class around the world, especially children.[1]

On October 3 & 4, 2020 he, along with two of his eminent colleagues, Dr Sunetra Gupta (Oxford) and Dr Martin Kulldorff (Harvard), wrote The Great Barrington Declaration, and released it to the public on October 5, 2020. It was a plea to the world to take a different strategy, a more “focused protection” approach to the COVID-19 measures to prevent the inevitable devastation that would result from the current lockdown and restrictive measures.
