On August 14, 2024 the WHO Director-General declared mpox (formally known as Monkey Pox) outbreak a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).   Two years ago on July 23, 2022 Monkeypox was declared a PHEIC. [5]

The WHO cited death rates 20 times higher than 2022-23 monkeypox outbreak which Dr Nass points out that “Obtaining an accurate death rate in the Democratic Republic of Congo where there are few roads and very little modern infrastructure is impossible”. Dr. Ogoina also said this is a “new form of monkeypox” with “atypical lesions”—so what we need is to look at the genome and get an idea where it came from. [1]
