On January 20, 2025,  President Trump’s first day in office, he signed an Executive Order (EO) to withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO) “citing its failure to hold China accountable and its role in pushing radical globalist health agendas that undermine American sovereignty”. [1, 2, 3]

“The U.S. will leave the global health body within a year from the official notification to the United Nations and the WHO, which Trump tasked newly confirmed Secretary of State Marco Rubio to do” [4]

“The executive order also demands the secretary of State to cease negotiations on the pandemic agreement that WHO member countries have been negotiating for years, with a deadline to conclude set for May” 2025, and also notes that actions taken to implement amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR), which countries agreed to last year, “will have no binding force on the United States.” [4]

Funding will be redirected to domestic health initiatives that prioritize American interests and values.
