On March 14, 2020 an open letter was sent to the UK government from 229 “specialists in disciplines ranging from mathematics to genetics” saying the UK’s current approach will put the NHS under additional stress and “risk many more lives than necessary”, essentially prompting stronger control measures such as social distancing so that “thousands of lives can be spared.” [1, 2]
Following UK’s chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance’s goal of herd immunity, the letter stated:
Going for “herd immunity” at this point does not seem a viable option, as this will put NHS at an even stronger level of stress, risking many more lives than necessary.
The total number of PCR positive “coronavirus” deaths was 21 at this point.
This same day the US suspend travel from UK and Ireland and Europe.
