On June 25-26, 2025 the newly formed CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) held their first meeting since being formed. This federal advisory committee develops recommendations on the use of vaccines in the civilian population of the United States. [1, 2, 3]  Watch – DAY 1, DAY 2

Some of ACIP’s decisions included:

  • Approved RSV Vaccine for infants [4]
  • moved to remove Thimerosal (Ethyl Mercury) as a vaccine preservative to prevent bacterial and fungal contamination, such as used in the multi-dose vial influenza vaccines. [5, 6]

Note: “Thimerosal was first introduced as a preservative in vaccines in the 1930’s after being developed and patented in 1927 and subsequently marketed by Eli Lilly under the trade name “Merthiolate” in 1928” [2]

Before the committee even met, lobby groups such as AMA began to form their own vaccine panel. [7, 8]
