Dr Joseph A. Ladapo, MD, PhD, is a physician and health policy researcher (a clinician scientist), originally at UCLA, whose primary interests include health economics, technology evaluation, and interventions to reduce cardiovascular disease risk. As an Associate Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine in California he cared for hospitalized patients.
Dr. Ladapo graduated from Wake Forest University and received his MD from Harvard Medical School and his PhD in Health Policy from Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. He completed his clinical training in internal medicine at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. [REF]
On July 27, 2020, he stood with the many America’s Frontline Doctors (AFLD) on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. for the White Coat Summit press conference, their first summit. Their video was said to be “the most viral video of all time” which that had 17 million views before YouTube removed it within 24 hours.
Through 2020, Dr Ladapo had written numerous opinion articles relating to the pandemic lockdowns which he thinks may likely have helped prompt Governor DeSantis, via his chief of staff Adrian Lukis, to contact him and ask if he’d consider being Florida’s next Surgeon General.

On September 20, 2021 Dr Lapado was hired at the University of Florida College of Medicine, and the next day Gov. Ron DeSantis officially names Dr. Joseph Ladapo his new Surgeon General of Florida.
